Located just inland from the Central Coast along the scenic Yaquina River, the quaint town of Toledo nestles up against the wooded foothills of the Coast Range. Tucked away from the dramatic moods of the Pacific Ocean, this sheltered little burg is often sunnier and warmer than other towns when winter storms hit up the Coast. A hidden gem of art and history, Toledo makes a perfect day trip on Oregon’s Central Coast.

SOMTIMES A GREAT NOTION Starring Paul Newman, Henry Fonda, Lee Remick and Michael Sarrazin and directed by Paul Newman. Filmed in 1971, “Sometimes a Great Notion” was based on Ken Kesey’s novel about an Oregon logging clan that strives to keep their independent family business going despite opposition from the local logging union. The whole town of Toledo was involved in some way. It was a really fun time in Toledo, with many residents acting as extras or just enjoyed watching the filming. It was an economic boost to the area.
